New Mets Addition Marcus Semien Expresses Strong Confidence in His Offensive Game and Big Contributions Ahead

The 2025 season proved to be a challenging one for Marcus Semien. Throughout his 13-year MLB career, Semien was known for his durability, but a foot injury in August cut his season short, limiting him to just 127 games. Even when he was playing, his performance declined for the second consecutive year, which was disappointing for the veteran. While Semien had averaged 31 home runs and 90 RBIs over the previous five years, before his injury, he managed only 15 home runs and 62 RBIs, posting a career-low OPS of .669. This slump has led many to question if Semien still has much left to offer on the field.

The Mets showed strong interest in Semien, with Brandon Nimmo praising his defense and leadership, while David Starnes noted there is potential for a rebound in his batting. At 35 years old, Semien remains confident that he can contribute meaningfully to the Mets’ lineup. “I want to keep playing until I’m told to stop,” he stated. “At this stage in my career, it’s encouraging to be on a team that believes in me, sees my strengths, and wants to support me. Offensively, I believe I still have a lot to give.”

Reflecting on last year’s performance, Semien expressed disappointment but feels optimistic about 2024’s start. He looks forward to working with Jeff Albert and Troy Snitker to refine his approach and become an MVP-level hitter in the lineup. Before his injury, Semien was showing signs of improvement, hitting .270 with 12 home runs and an .801 OPS over his final 71 games. If he can replicate those numbers in New York, it would be a significant boost for the Mets’ offense.

Fan Take: Marcus Semien’s journey this season highlights both the physical toll and resilience required at the highest level of baseball. His potential comeback could inject much-needed energy and experience into the Mets, adding excitement for fans and reaffirming the enduring appeal of veteran leadership in the sport.
