Patrick Mullins Celebrates Striking 900 Winning Shots Milestone

Patrick Mullins is aiming to reach 1,000 career victories after securing his 900th win on Jimmy de Suile in the SIS Support Irish Racing Beginners Chase at Fairyhouse. Although an amateur jockey, Mullins boasts an impressive record that includes nine wins at the Cheltenham Festival, numerous Grade 1 victories, and a celebrated triumph at Aintree in this year’s Grand National with Nick Lockett, who is trained by his father, Willie Mullins.

As Ireland’s record-holding 17-time amateur champion, Mullins was thrilled with another significant win, guiding Jimmy de Seille to a clear victory in his first chase race. Reflecting on his milestone, Mullins shared that he met Stan Mellor’s wife Elaine in London; Mellor was the first rider to achieve 1,000 wins and fondly recalled his last victory on Herring Gull for his grandfather.

Jimmy de Seuil, trained by Willie Mullins, last competed in the Coral Cup at Cheltenham in March, where he defeated Impose Toy, the long hurdle winner, by three lengths. This impressive performance was enough to unsettle the 15-8 favorite at Fairyhouse, and Mullins admired Albert Bartlett’s form from last season, notably when he won against The Big Westerner by four lengths.

Mullins added, “His jumping was excellent, and he may be a stronger chaser than hurdler. He won comfortably, while Nick Lockett and I Am Maximus lost in this novice chase, and Ampere et Passe secured a win. We always believed he had Grade 1 potential and hope he realizes it.”

He also explained, “With Danny Mullins and Paul Townend riding elsewhere at Newbury and Newcastle, I thought it best to choose between the two horses. I apologize to Brian Hayes if I caused any inconvenience, but I felt this one stood out.”

Fan Take: Patrick Mullins’ pursuit of 1,000 wins showcases the dedication and talent of amateur riders in the sport, inspiring fans and competitors alike.
