Solness Puts Leopardstown at the Forefront of Their Agenda

Solness aims to replicate last year’s standout performance at Leopardstown, with trainer Joseph O’Brien still undecided about running him in the Tingle Creek at Sandown next Saturday. The seven-year-old impressed last season by not only winning the Christmas race but also triumphing over Marine National in the Dublin Chase during the Dublin Racing Festival, both races held at Leopardstown.

Naturally, O’Brien favors a return to Leopardstown, noting, “We’ll see what conditions are like at Sandown. But Leopardstown is where he’s been at his best, so that’s the target for him.” He added that Solness’s condition is good, although their exact plans remain undecided.

In other news, two of Owning Hill’s top Flat racing talents have recently competed in major international events and are preparing for a trip to Hong Kong. Al Rifa, a three-time Group 1 winner, recovered well from the disappointment of being defeated by rivals in the Melbourne Cup. Meanwhile, Galen, who put in a commendable effort at the Bahrain International Cup despite losing to notable champions, is also set to compete in the Hong Kong Cup, possibly facing off against local favorite Romantic Warriors, trained by Danny Shum.

O’Brien commented, “Al Rifa and Galen are both scheduled to run in Hong Kong in December. They have both returned from overseas trips in good order. It’s obviously going to be a very competitive race, but we’re honored to be involved and very much looking forward to it.”

Fan Take: This update is exciting for horse racing enthusiasts because it highlights the strategic decisions trainers face when balancing local success with international competition. The upcoming races could showcase some thrilling performances and elevate the global profile of these talented horses and their connections.
