  • Rodrygo ready to leave in January after being treated poorly by Real Madrid
  • Arsenal make Real Madrid’s stance clear as they prepare to sign Rodrygo in January

Arsenal are thought to be preparing to sign Real Madrid star Rodrygo in January, with sporting director Andrea Berta giving considerable encouragement that it is possible.

Rodrigo is a familiar name to Gunners supporters.

According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Bertha and his team had several discussions last summer about signing the Brazil international, before opting to sign Noni Madueke and Ebelesi Eze instead.

The door was ultimately closed in the last transfer window, but Arsenal could be given another chance to sign the versatile £282,000-a-week forward, who is slowly falling out of favor under manager Xabi Alonso.

Rodrygo has only started three of La Liga’s last 12 games, playing a total of 330 minutes, but this is a far cry from how important he was to Carlo Ancelotti.

Jude Bellingham, who scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists in 54 games across all competitions last season, is also on record as calling Rodrigo one of his most “talented” and “underrated” players.

However, Alonso clearly doesn’t think so, and current reliable reports suggest that Rodrygo is very likely to leave in January as he competes for consistent playing time.

Chelsea and Tottenham are also interested in the 24-year-old, with some believing he is on the verge of leaving the Bernabéu for England as a very likely move.

CaughtOffside have published an update on his future, which partly concerns Arsenal.

They say Arsenal are preparing a bid for Rodrygo in January and that sporting director Andrea Berta has been informed of Real’s position along with other interested parties, including Liverpool.

Los Blancos are expected to consider selling the former Santos sensation next month if they receive a suitable offer, with Real demanding around £75m-80m.

Arsenal and Liverpool have also been mentioned as front-runners for a winter deal, which could make sense given the uncertainty surrounding Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

As it stands, both players’ contracts expire in 2027. Additionally, despite both players’ impressive contributions this season, there has been little progress in negotiations regarding contract extensions.

Rodrygo would definitely be a great replacement for either or both, but it would also be a very surprising coup in the middle of a campaign, given Arsenal are never usually aggressive in January when it comes to signing big names or marquee players.
