Tottenham Hotspur’s attack for the 2025/26 season has so far been a huge failure, as evidenced by the meager numbers produced by their players in those areas of the pitch.
Richarlison is currently the Lilywhites’ top scorer in the Premier League this season, but the Brazilian has only scored five goals in 14 games so far.
Micky van de Ven is the only player in Thomas Frank’s side to score more than two goals in England’s top flight, further highlighting the lack of talent in the final third.
Fellow centre-back Cristian Romero also scored a double in Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with Newcastle United, giving the Argentine a point at St James’ Park.
However, the month of January is an opportunity for Frank and his executives to add needed qualities to the offensive line to help its chances for success.
Spurs aim to strengthen their front line
In an attempt to improve their options within the final third, Spurs have identified Porto striker Sam Agehowa as a potential option ahead of the January window.
The 21-year-old was in great form during the 2025/26 season, as evidenced by his 12 goals in 20 appearances for the Portuguese giants.
But such a deal would certainly be expensive for Frank’s men. Frank’s current employer is demanding a fee of 80 million euros (about 7 billion yen) to part with their amulets.
Sam is not the only attacker currently being considered by Lilywhites bosses ahead of the winter season, with Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo another target.
According to Sky Sports, Frank’s side have begun ramping up their efforts to sign the 25-year-old winger, who has already scored a total of nine goals and provided an assist this season.
Liverpool are also in the race to sign him, but Fabio Paratici’s early efforts have led to the Lilywhites taking the lead on his signature.
Why Semenyo could be Spurs’ new Son Heung-min
Son Heung-min has far exceeded expectations during his 10 years in North London and the South Korean international is one of the most suitable players to wear a Spurs shirt.
He arrived in the summer of 2015 as an unknown to many supporters, but after 10 years at the club, it is no exaggeration to say that he has established himself as one of the best attackers in the club’s history.
The winger scored an astonishing total of 173 goals in 454 appearances for the club, and also provided 101 assists, often becoming a reliable player alongside Harry Kane.
However, Frank could not rely on the 33-year-old after taking over the reins and the attacker left in a £20m deal to join LAFC during the summer period.
Son, who was able to play impressively with both feet, left a big hole on the left side of the Lilywhites’ attack, which was becoming a big problem for the Danes.
This situation could change in the coming months, especially if they are able to secure a move for Semenyo in the upcoming transfer window.
The Ghanaian international, who has proven his two-footed abilities this season, has also produced a number of impressive numbers, with his underlying numbers showing his quality in possession.
Described as “world class” by teammate Justin Kluivert, Semenyo has scored 0.69 goals and assists per 90 games, the highest of any Spurs player.
Such a tally ranks him in the 97th percentile of all other attackers in the division, demonstrating his uncanny ability to produce in front of goal.

He also has 1.1 shots on target and 2.3 aerial shots per 90, both of which are better than 95% of other wingers in the Premier League.
Semenyo is an all-round talent who can play alone or provide for those around him, and £65m could potentially be a great price for a player of his quality.
Other stats such as 1.8 take-ons per 90 games and 1.4 carries into the final third further highlight his talent in possession, which could give Frank the flair he craves in attacking areas.
It remains to be seen whether the board can reach an agreement over the line in the coming months, but Semenyo’s move is an absolute necessity if they want to reach the next level.
His skill set is frighteningly close to Son’s and if he moves to north London, the Ghanaian has a chance to emulate the South Korean and make his own history.
