Man United are hoping to sign a new midfielder in January, but that is likely to require the departure of one or two players. There continues to be strong interest in Koby Mainu and he could be a direct swap at Old Trafford.
It has been a very frustrating season for Mainu, who has only played 171 minutes in the Premier League. He is said to be seeking a move to a club where he plays regularly and is becoming increasingly open to leaving Man United.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are the latest clubs to show an interest in Mainuo, but at the moment he is most likely to move to Germany or Italy before the end of the January transfer window.
Bayern Munich and Napoli make offers for Koby Mainu
According to TEAMtalk, Bayern Munich have increased their interest in Maynou and are willing to pay £50m for him in January. Napoli are also very keen on signing the 20-year-old, with the reigning Serie A champions offering loan and buy options.
Mainu is reportedly interested in joining either club. Having seen the success of his former teammate Scott McTominay at Napoli, this is an attractive option for him, with Bayern also seen as a good move. However, he is thought to want to remain in the Premier League, with the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle interested.
Should Manchester United let Koby Mainu go?
It will be interesting to see how the situation with Mainu develops in the coming weeks. It makes some sense to acquire a player who clearly has no value for Ruben Amorim, but it could be yet another transfer regret for Man Utd if he definitely fulfills his potential.
