Martin Brundle Claims Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton Has Harmed His ‘Performance and Reputation’

F1 commentator Martin Brundle has expressed concerns that Lewis Hamilton’s “performance and reputation” have suffered due to his difficult tenure at Ferrari. During his first year with the team, Hamilton struggled significantly, failing to secure a podium finish in any of the 24 races he entered. The seven-time world champion also recorded an unwanted streak of consecutive Q1 eliminations towards the season’s end.

Ferrari has yet to provide a car capable of winning races, even for Charles Leclerc, but Hamilton is hopeful that the 2026 regulation changes will better suit his driving style. Hamilton’s disappointing season and his subdued post-race interviews have sparked discussions about his future in Formula 1. By the time the 2026 season begins, Hamilton will be 41 years old, making him the second-oldest driver in the field. Despite this, he remains one of the most victorious drivers in F1 history and maintains pride in his achievements.

Driven by the near-miss of his eighth championship in 2021, Hamilton is determined to lead Ferrari to its first drivers’ title since 2007. His poor showing at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix sparked a debate between Brundle and Hamilton’s former teammate and childhood friend Nico Rosberg. Rosberg questioned whether Hamilton might retire by 2026, but Brundle believes Hamilton will wait to see if Ferrari improves before making that decision. Rosberg emphasized that Hamilton needs to persevere, especially since the Ferrari project is just beginning, and giving up after one tough season wouldn’t be right. Hamilton is now focused on the future, taking part in the post-season Abu Dhabi Test alongside Leclerc and preparing for pre-season testing in January.

Fan Take: This update is crucial for racing fans because it highlights the resilience of a legendary figure in the sport and the evolving dynamics at Ferrari. Hamilton’s determination to bounce back could reignite competitive excitement and mark a new chapter in Formula 1’s thrilling narrative.
