The Buffalo Sabers have announced the signing of forward Trevor Kunter to a one-year, two-way NHL contract for the rest of the 2025-26 season. Kunter initially joined the Sabers’ AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans, on an AHL contract in July, and his performance there evidently convinced the Sabers to elevate him to an NHL deal.

Kunter has made a notable impact with Rochester this season, playing 24 games and tallying nine goals, four assists, 13 points, and accumulating 43 penalty minutes. Last season, he appeared in 54 games for the Providence Bruins, contributing three goals and 12 points. Drafted 89th overall by the Boston Bruins in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Kunter has yet to debut in the NHL but boasts significant AHL experience. Over 148 AHL games spanning three seasons with Providence and Rochester, he amassed 22 goals, 23 assists, 45 points, and 232 penalty minutes.

Fan Take: This signing highlights the Sabers’ commitment to developing promising talent within their farm system, offering fans hope for fresh energy and skill on the ice. Kunter’s progression from AHL to NHL underscores the important role of the minor leagues in shaping the future of hockey.
