Caitlin Clark Delivers Definitive Statement on Joining the Project B Basketball League

Caitlin Clark made her return to basketball activities on Friday after a 150-day hiatus from official games. Although she didn’t participate in a professional match, Clark was seen practicing at full intensity without any restrictions during Team USA’s basketball camp at Duke University.

Last season, Clark’s playtime was limited to just 13 WNBA regular-season games due to a persistent groin injury. Her last game was on July 15 when the Indiana Fever played against the Connecticut Sun. Shortly after, medical advice concluded she wouldn’t be able to fully recover in time to play during the 2025 season, sidelining her for the remainder of the year.

Fans and the basketball community are thrilled about Clark’s comeback, with her presence marked by numerous appearances including Team USA practice footage and press conferences.

During media availability, a reporter asked Clark if she planned to take part in the new “Project B” basketball league—a mixed-gender 5-on-5 league supported by notable figures like Candice Parker and Novak Djokovic. Despite speculation, Clark firmly declared, “I’m going to play in the WNBA.”

This response is significant given that some Indiana Fever players, such as Sophie Cunningham and Kelsey Mitchell, have already committed to Project B. Clark also acknowledged the necessity for the WNBA to resolve challenges regarding the upcoming season amid ongoing collective bargaining agreement negotiations that risk a lockout.

Clark highlighted the growth and enthusiasm around women’s basketball, noting the emergence of multiple leagues as proof of the sport’s rising popularity. She praised the increasing investment in women’s basketball and expressed optimism about its future, emphasizing how the sport has not always received such support.

The resolution of the WNBA’s labor situation remains uncertain, but for now, Clark appears committed to remaining with the league rather than seeking alternatives.

Fan Take: Caitlin Clark’s return and commitment to the WNBA is a huge boost for the league, providing hope that the sport’s top talent will stay amid rising competition from new leagues. This moment symbolizes a pivotal time for women’s basketball, signaling increased investment and excitement that could propel the game to new heights.
