Pauling’s Countdown Begins: Jukebox Man Takes Center Stage

Ben Poehling is confident that Jukebox Man is in peak condition as he aims for a career-defining win at the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase. The seven-year-old horse, owned by Harry Redknapp, has focused on Boxing Day at Kempton ever since his impressive victory in the Cout Star Novice Chase there a year ago. Although an injury shortened his last season, his comeback win at Haydock confirmed he still has exceptional talent.

With just over a week before the main event, both Pauling and Redknapp addressed the media at a press event held at the trainer’s Norton Downs yard. Expectations are high that Jukebox Man can demonstrate his ability to compete at the highest level. Pauling expressed confidence saying, “We have a horse brimming with confidence and in the best shape we’ve ever seen.” He admitted there was some caution returning from injury but praised Jukebox Man’s powerful and aggressive performance at Haydock as proof of his potential.

Following that race, Jukebox Man looked outstanding and has continued to improve impressively with training, reaching levels unseen before. Currently priced at 8-1, Jukebox Man will face stiff competition from proven horses like Fact to File and Gaelic Warrior, trained by Willie Mullins, as well as Django Bey, trained by Pauling’s mentor Nicky Henderson. Pauling believes the Kempton track suits Jukebox Man’s style perfectly.

Poehling highlighted that since winning the Kautstar last year, the Boxing Day King George Chase has been their main target. While he has tasted success in major races before, a win here would be the pinnacle of his career. He described Jukebox Man as a strong-willed but gentle horse with a strong sense of self-worth.

Harry Redknapp, reflecting on his years as a football manager, is cautiously optimistic about the upcoming race. He values the horse’s well-being above all and admits the competition is fierce, likening the King George to the Champions League in football. While aware of the challenge, he believes Jukebox Man stands a real chance and dreams of victory.

Fan Take: This upcoming King George VI Chase is shaping up to be a thrilling contest with a formidable field and a horse like Jukebox Man coming into peak form. For horse racing fans, a win here could signal the arrival of a true champion and inject fresh excitement into the sport’s elite level.
