Man City could add players to their squad in January, but there has been a lot of attention in recent weeks on potential departures. James Trafford could leave due to lack of playing time, and the same could be said for Sabinho.
It has been a difficult season for the Brazilian winger, who has played a bit-part role thanks to the form of Phil Foden, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki. He has started just four games in the Premier League, and his hopes of being included in Brazil’s squad for the 2026 World Cup are now doomed.
Sabinho could leave Man City due to lack of opportunities
According to Football Insider, manager Mick Brown has revealed that Sabinho could leave Man City when the January transfer window opens.
“I wouldn’t be surprised to see Sabinho leave City in January. Cherki came in and really hit the ground running, and with Doc and Foden both stepping up, he has been relegated to a more reserve role.”
“Savinho is a top player, but he’s not developing at the moment and he’s not going to be a regular there. Guardiola doesn’t see him as a starter any more than the other players I mentioned, so there’s a good chance he’ll let him go if he gets an offer.”
“From his point of view, he must be frustrated that he is not playing as well as he would like. After City’s efforts to keep him at the club, you would have expected him to become a key figure in the team, but so far that has not been the case.
“If he had the opportunity to leave Man City again and play more regular football with another first team, that would definitely be attractive to him. Obviously it depends on City and whether they are willing to let him leave.”
What should Manchester City do with Sabinho?
Sabinho is a top talent but does not fit into Man City’s plans at the moment. Although his departure seems inevitable, it is good news for Tottenham, who remain interested in signing him after failing to sign him in the summer.
