  • Manchester United enter race to sign Oumar Solet

Manchester United are currently in a race with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur to sign Serie A defender Ruben Amorim in the January transfer window.

Amorim drops update on Fernandes injury

It’s been a hectic month for Manchester United, but it’s also been a fairly successful one. Apart from Aston Villa’s impressive run of victories, winning in the Premier League over the past 12 games has been far more difficult and Ruben Amorim is – by his own admission – learning to adapt to the job.

Boxing Day’s stubborn win against Newcastle United wasn’t the most convincing, but it proved the Red Devils are capable of picking up three points even when they’re not at their best. And they did it without Bruno Fernandes.

The club captain is currently sidelined with a rare injury and although Amorim has revealed he is slowly working his way back, United will be without their star man against Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight.

The Manchester United manager said: “There’s no chance he’ll play against Wolves. No chance. You can write that.”

Amorim said, “He can’t be a player who doesn’t talk (when he’s not playing) and doesn’t talk.” “He talks all the time. That’s why he’s our captain. There are some bad things at times, like the way he moves his arm, but there are a lot of good things as well.”

This player could improve Manchester United’s midfield depth.

“Every time he recovers from a (previous) game, he’s the one watching the other guys training that day. So there’s a lot of things you don’t see. He’s a great leader.”

The January transfer window could still play a key role as United now take the next important step towards qualifying for the Champions League. They are also reportedly eyeing new defensive targets, with Ruben Neves already linked.

Manchester United enter race to sign Oumar Solet

Manchester United have joined Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace and West Ham United in the race to sign Oumar Solet from Udinese, TeamTalk reports.

The 25-year-old centre-back is wanted in the Premier League thanks to his impressive performances in Serie A and could be on the move in the January transfer window.

For Manchester United, the Frenchman could replace Harry Maguire, who is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal at Old Trafford ahead of his current deal expiring in the summer.

Sollet was impressive in every way. He has outperformed both Maguire and young Lenny Yolo in possession, and is also impressive in non-possession situations. His ability to win the ball back is particularly noteworthy compared to the Man Utd duo, and his aggressiveness will be a key feature if the Red Devils make a move.
