Manchester United are reportedly in pole position in the race to sign the England international this month.
Manchester United sign England star in pole position
It could be a busy month for the Red Devils as they hope to break into the top four and finally find some stability under manager Ruben Amorim. INEOS already revised the manager’s attack with a brilliant overhaul in the summer, and could now do the same to solve the problems in midfield.
The Manchester United manager has spoken out about the January transfer window, telling reporters: “Sometimes I have one idea and Jason and the board have another idea. Every decision we make has to come to common ground.
“This is very important because you don’t have to make everything for the manager because the manager can change, and (in that case) everything has to change.
Manchester United 1-1 Wolves: Gary Neville slams ‘strange’ Ruben Amorim decision
It was a night to remember for the Red Devils.
“But you also have to understand that the coach understands how to play. If we can’t reach common ground, the players won’t come. So we’re just trying to make it happen.”
On the transfer front, recent reports suggest Man United will focus on their midfield this month, but it remains to be seen who will make the move.
Players such as Ruben Neves, who is considering leaving Al Hilal in the winter, have reportedly emerged as possible options. United have reportedly made contact with the Portugal international’s agent as a return to the Premier League looms on the horizon.
However, he is not the only one on the shortlist. According to TeamTalk, Man United are currently leading the race to sign Conor Gallagher, who is also eyeing a return to the Premier League this month.
Gallagher could replace Manuel Ugarte
It could be a case of one in, one out at Old Trafford. According to recent reports, Galatasaray are prioritizing signing Manuel Ugarte from Man United this month, making this the perfect opportunity for the Red Devils to bring in Gallagher.
Although not an equal successor, the England international would immediately provide more energy and vital versatility at the heart of Amorim’s squad.
League statistics 25/26 | gallagher | Ugarte |

minutes | 634 | 554 |
progressive carry P90 | 2.71 | 0.97 |
Progressive Pass P90 | 3.43 | 5.16 |

Unlike other targets, Gallagher is unlikely to cost United too much. Atletico Madrid will transfer the midfielder for just €30m (about £26m) in the new year, which is reportedly more than affordable for INEOS.
A potential problem is Mr Gallagher’s wage demands. In Spain, the former Chelsea player earns around £151,000 a week, putting him among Man United’s top ten earners.
The Red Devils will have to decide whether to simply value Gallagher in the January transfer window or wait until they sign players like Adam Wharton and Elliott Anderson in the summer.
