Aston Villa rebounded from two losses in two months with a 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, securing second place in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Wolverhampton, at the bottom of the table, finally achieved their first win of the season.

Villa’s captain, John McGinn, netted two goals in the second half, including a long-range strike from Ollie Watkins during stoppage time. Morgan Gibbs-White managed to close the gap for Forest at 2-1 in the 61st minute, but a mistake from Forest’s goalkeeper, John Victor, allowed McGinn to restore Villa’s two-goal lead. McGinn skillfully sidestepped Victor before firing the ball into the net from 30 yards.

Victor later exited the match due to an injury he sustained following the goal. Villa’s previous 11-game winning streak, which included eight league victories, was halted by a 4-1 defeat to Arsenal on Tuesday. Unai Emery’s squad now sits above Manchester City, who are set to play Chelsea on Sunday, and are three points behind table leaders Arsenal, who are facing Bournemouth later.

Wolves Finally Triumph

Wolverhampton secured a 3-0 victory against West Ham, finally breaking their record of the worst start to a top-flight season. Since the inception of the Premier League in 1992, no other team has taken this long to register their first league win.

Goals from John Arias, Hwang Hee-chan, and Matheus Mane in the first half propelled Wolves to six points, but they still trail safety by 12 points with 18 games left in the season. They are six points behind second-to-last Burnley, who lost 2-0 to Brighton, and eight points behind third-from-bottom West Ham.
