Liverpool are “seriously pushing” to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Gehi, according to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano.
The English defender is entering the final six months of his contract at Selhurst Park, with several of the Premier League’s top clubs poised to sign him.
Liverpool have a long-term interest in signing the former Chelsea defender.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the 25-year-old defender, although Manchester City are in the race to sign him due to the injury crisis.
Competition to sign him has intensified as Palace look to sell their star player this month.
If Palace wait until the summer, Guehi will become a free agent and could leave for free.
Romano admitted that Premier League clubs, particularly Liverpool, are ready to sign Guehi, but also noted Arsenal’s praise for the defender.
Liverpool are in the process of signing Marc Gehi
Romano said on his Youtube channel:
“What I can say is that the player’s real intention was always to move on a free transfer in the summer.
“Liverpool are making a real push. Arteta is a big fan so Arsenal are also calling. Bayern are also holding meetings to sign Gehi as these two clubs insist, but Upamecano is expected to sign a new contract.”
“Manchester City were clear after that. They were willing to make an effort, they wanted to make an important offer and they wanted to do everything for Marc Gehi in this January window. “Manchester City are therefore going to try again next week. “If the player accepts, Manchester City are willing to agree with Crystal Palace. They see no problem with that.”
“But it’s up to the player and his plan was always to go on a free transfer in the summer.”
Competition to acquire Guehi is expected to be fierce.
It’s not wrong to think that Guehi is one of the hottest players on the market right now.
His form, consistency and performances for Palace and the England national team are indicative of his level as a player.
The 25-year-old is at the peak of his career and has attracted the attention of top clubs as he could be snapped up on a bargain deal.
Liverpool failed to sign him last summer, but City are in desperate need of a new central defender and are expected to move soon, although that could change this month or after the end of the season.
As for Arsenal, it would make little sense to sign Guehi, as they already have the likes of Gabriel Magalhães and William Saliba in this position.
