  • There are two options on Chelsea’s shortlist.

Chelsea are intensifying negotiations with Rennes for highly-rated French centre-back Jeremy Jacquet, who is also keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

He has emerged as Chelsea’s top defensive priority this season.

Rennes is solid – Jacket’s price will be higher than Doc’s.

Rennes won’t move easily. The Ligue 1 side sold Jeremy Doku to Manchester City for €64 million, but club sources say they are seeking even more for Jaquet, who is under contract until 2029 and has no release clause.

Jacquet has started almost every league match this season and has become one of France’s most impressive young defenders.

Although he has attracted multiple scouts across Europe, Chelsea remain the most determined suitor and have already made the player aware that he is a key part of their long-term project.

Chelsea’s need for a centre-back has increased following injuries, the team’s current inconsistent form and a desire to refresh the core of their defense under new head coach Liam Rosenior.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has reported that Chelsea are also monitoring Como’s Jacobo Ramon as a possible replacement.

However, a deal for the 19-year-old Spanish defender would be extremely difficult to accomplish.

Ramon only joined Como last summer. Real Madrid have a buyback clause of 8 million euros. The Spanish giants also remain 50% sold, giving them significant control.

Real have not ruled out re-signing the player, which could make it difficult for Chelsea to sign him.

This means Ramon’s transfer will likely require both Como and Real Madrid to approve a complex financial structure.

Another name being rated is Marcos Senesi, currently at Bournemouth. The Argentina international is out of contract this summer, making him the most financially accessible candidate.
