Nottingham Forest begin final negotiations to sign Napoli striker Lorenzo Lucca

  • Earnshaw urges Forest to sign new forward
  • ‘Mighty’ Lucca may be just what the forest needs
        • Nottingham Forest prepare to move for ‘amazing’ forward with £16m bid

Nottingham Forest are set to hold tense negotiations today over the signing of their “powerful” new forward as they attempt to convince him to move to the City Ground.

Earnshaw urges Forest to sign new forward

Robert Earnshaw believes his former club need to introduce new attacking options this month, saying: “I like Igor Jesus…he has great movement and position in the box.

“I think Forest would benefit from having an extra forward…The important thing is goals…The only quality is that they have players who can create chances and score goals. They can finish and they have the talent to finish. That’s the biggest thing for Forest.”

Chris Wood has been sidelined with a knee injury since the end of October, and given there has been no update on the centre-forward’s return for quite some time, it might make sense to bring in a new striker before the end of the January transfer window.

Sky Sports confirmed yesterday that Tricky Trees have agreed loan terms with Napoli to sign Lorenzo Lucca, with reports elsewhere revealing they have an option to make the deal permanent for £30m.

There is another update on Nottingham Forest’s signing of Lucca, with a report from Il Mattino (via Sport Witness) revealing that Nottingham Forest are set to hold a meeting with the striker’s entourage today.

Final negotiations are expected to be finalized in the coming hours, with Forrest planning to persuade the centre-forward to move to the City Ground, but with Serie A side Pisa also keen, there could be competition for his signature.

‘Mighty’ Lucca may be just what the forest needs

The Italian has been hailed as “powerful” by scout Jacek Kulig, who also described him as a “clinical finisher”, and his ability in front of goal was on display regularly last season, scoring 12 goals and providing two assists in 33 Serie A appearances for Udinese.

Nottingham Forest prepare to move for ‘amazing’ forward with £16m bid

Forest are reportedly looking for a replacement for Arnaud Karimendo.

Forest need inspiration from somewhere in the second half of the season as they are just five points clear of the Premier League relegation zone, and commentator Adam Summerton revealed the 6ft 7 giant has plenty of confidence.

Mr Summerton said: “He is very confident, almost arrogant. He famously disobeyed the team’s orders to take the pen last season. He is determined, competitive and physically strong.”

With Igor Jesus scoring just one Premier League goal all season and Wood still absent, Nottingham Forest will definitely need to bring in a new striker this month, so they will have to do everything in their power to persuade Lucca into the negotiations scheduled for today.
