Manchester United remain loyal to Michael Carrick despite their disappointing loss to Leeds United, with club officials still viewing him as a strong candidate to become permanent manager.
Fabrizio Romano has suggested that the mood inside Old Trafford remains positive regarding Carrick’s leadership, despite speculation surrounding Andoni Iraola’s possible move to Manchester.
The loss to Leeds sparked renewed debate among fans and pundits about United’s long-term management direction.
However, within the club there appears to be a focus on evaluating Carrick’s overall progress rather than judging his performance on a single result.
Michael Carrick is having a crucial period at Man United
The coming weeks could be decisive in shaping the future of United’s bench, with Champions League qualification remaining the big target.
Romano reported on his Youtube channel:
“Man United still have very positive feelings towards Carrick, even after the loss to Leeds due to refereeing.
“They are very happy with his attitude, his tactical decisions, his approach and his relationship with the dressing room.
“They want to be in the UCL again next season, so that will be the aim for Carrick for the next six games, at which point United will decide on a permanent manager.”
The Red Devils have won just one of their last four games. This is a big change from the situation when Carrick took over as interim manager this season.
Despite the setback against Leeds, Man United bosses are reportedly satisfied with Carrick’s tactical approach, communication style and relationship with the team.
Carrick has performed well since replacing Ruben Amorim.
Since taking up the role following the departure of Ruben Amorim, Carrick has been tasked with stabilizing performances and guiding the club through key phases of the season, and has done an excellent job in that role.
Romano suggested that sentiment within the club towards Carrick remains “very positive” following the recent defeat.
United officials are thought to value his level-headed leadership and the sense of unity he has fostered within the dressing room.
United’s desire to qualify for the Champions League is likely to be the deciding factor in Carrick’s future. Finishing among Europe’s elite would greatly strengthen his position and justify the club’s decision to trust him in a transitional period.
Man United are keeping a close eye on the Premier League club’s attacking and defending duo.
