Wrexham are now reportedly “preparing” to make a serious offer to sign the former Premier League defender ahead of Scottish giants Rangers.
Wrexham make record offer to sign Sheriff
Wrexham have been threatening to steal the headlines all week and may do so in the most sensational of ways following reports they have submitted a record-breaking offer to sign Siddiqui Sherif from Angers this month.
The offer, worth around £19 million including add-ons, could wipe out Wrexham’s transfer record and hijack Crystal Palace’s first move for the forward. This will be a big statement for the remaining teams competing for a playoff spot in the championship.
This would be the biggest deal under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ reign, but it comes as no surprise given the Welsh side currently sit just two points out of the top six.
As for the Sheriff himself, he has quite a few decisions to make. The forward is not necessarily a finished product in terms of what he can add to Wrexham.
With four goals in 18 league games for France this season, it’s clear that the 19-year-old isn’t going to make a full impact in the offseason, but is a player who will get even better in the coming years.
Off the pitch, his addition will undoubtedly have an even bigger impact. This would make Wrexham spend like a Premier League side before they entered the top flight. It shows the hand that those in Hollywood are playing with and should only cause excitement in Wales.
Additionally, Sherif may not be the last available spot, with the Red Dragons also reportedly interested in the former Premier League defender.
Wrexham ‘preparing’ offer for Yann Valéry
As reported by The Star’s Alex Miller, Wrexham are currently ‘preparing’ to make a serious offer to sign Yann Valery from Sheffield on Wednesday. The Owls have been in dire need of funding during his tenure in government, which could result in them being sanctioned for selling the former Southampton defender.
Whether Wrexham wins the race is a big question. Rangers are pursuing Valerie alongside them as Danny Rolle looks to reunite with his former full-back.
If Wrexham are looking for experience, the 26-year-old is certainly the man for the job. He is a full international player for Tunisia, appearing in both the Premier League and the Championship.
The experienced defender is now at the peak of his powers at the age of 26 and is exactly what Wrexham need if they are to aim for the Premier League.
Alongside the young Sherif, signing the former Southampton player would be very solid business for Reynolds and McElhenny.
