Jack Grealish Faces Two-Month Absence Due to Foot Injury

Everton has revealed that Jack Grealish has sustained a stress fracture in his foot, which is expected to keep him sidelined for about two months. The 30-year-old winger joined Everton on loan from Manchester City at the beginning of the season to secure more consistent playing time, but this injury could jeopardize his chances of being selected for England’s squad in the upcoming 2026 World Cup.

Grealish Thrives on Loan at Everton

During his final months at Manchester City, Grealish found himself frequently on the bench, as manager Pep Guardiola preferred other players. His situation sparked much conversation, especially during a period when City struggled to find their form without him being utilized.

The loan to Everton provided a long-awaited chance for a fresh start. The former Aston Villa star has made an impact this season, netting two goals and providing six assists in 20 Premier League appearances, contributing significantly to Everton’s standing in 10th place.

Injury Announcement from Everton

Recently, Grealish’s condition worsened, with reports suggesting that he has been dealing with foot issues for several months. His manager, David Moyes, addressed the situation at a pre-match press conference, stating, “It’s not for me to say the timings; we don’t know yet, but he has a stress fracture in his foot, and that’s all I can share.” Moyes acknowledged the significance of Grealish’s contributions this season, saying, “This is a substantial setback for us, especially given he’s been crucial to our team.”

Moyes further noted that they are in close communication with Manchester City for updates on Grealish’s recovery process.

World Cup Implications for Grealish

This injury represents a considerable challenge for Grealish, who had been performing admirably under Moyes. It compromises his prospects of making the England squad for the World Cup.

With 39 caps to his name, the Three Lions international has not yet been included by manager Thomas Tuchel since his last appearance in October 2024, where he scored in a 3-1 Nations League victory against Finland under interim manager Lee Carsley. With players like Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford stepping into the spotlight, Grealish’s absence may have lasting implications on his international career.

Given his injury, Grealish is unlikely to feature in the upcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Japan, meaning he will have to deliver remarkable performances upon his return to compete for a place on the World Cup roster.

Everton Also Welcomes Back AFCON Champions

Despite Grealish’s setback, Moyes has reason to be optimistic as he welcomes back Idrissa Gana Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye, who recently returned from their international commitments after winning the African Cup of Nations.

Key players Keiynan Dewsbury-Hall and Jarrad Branthwaite are also back in training following their recoveries, alongside Charlie Alcaraz. Moyes has expressed hope that these returning players will bolster the team’s efforts moving forward.

In their next fixture, Everton will host Leeds, aiming to capitalize on their recent form, having accrued eight points in their last five league matches, including a recent 1-0 victory against Aston Villa.

Fan Take

This news is significant for soccer fans, as Grealish is not only a talented player but also a key figure for the England national team. His injury could impact the dynamics of the upcoming World Cup, making fans anxious about their squad’s prospects and the potential loss of a star player during this crucial time.
