Everton centre-forward Beto is a player who could be moved away from the Hill Dickinson Stadium before the January transfer window closes early next month.
It was recently reported that Turkish giants Fenerbahce are interested in signing the Portuguese number nine in order to strengthen their squad for the second half of the season.
According to reports, the Super Lig side have made an offer to Everton for the 27-year-old marksman, with the player’s agent holding talks with Fenerbahce over a possible move.
According to Sofascore, Beto has scored just two goals from 4.47xG in 22 appearances in the Premier League this season, and the club should look to sign him now that interest from Turkish sides is growing.
Everton eyeing Premier League forward signing
Signing a quality replacement for the former Udinese No. 9 could break the Blues’ mistakes and they are reportedly considering players who would be a significant upgrade on him.
According to TEAMtalk, Everton are one of a number of clubs interested in a late-stage deal to sign Crystal Palace centre-forward Jean-Philippe Mateta before the end of the January transfer window.
The report initially featured other outlets detailing interest in the Frenchman from Spurs and Newcastle, but TEAMtalk adds from its own sources that Chelsea and the Toffees are planning a late swoop for his exploits.
The report reveals Palace are seeking a fee in the region of £40m for the FA Cup-winning star to move from Selhurst Park in the coming days, with Juventus said to be hoping for an initial loan deal.
However, TEAMtalk has not revealed whether Everton are prepared to pay the £40m required to sign the Premier League marksman.
Why Mateta is a huge upgrade over Beto
The Toffees will need to spend big to sign the France international before the transfer window closes, as he would be a huge upgrade over Beto for David Moyes to fill the No. 9 position.
As mentioned above, the Everton attacker has had a dismal performance in the Premier League so far this season, scoring just two goals in 22 games and, according to SofaScore, only 11 goals in his first two seasons in the division.
Thirteen goals in 82 Premier League games is hardly a great return for a centre-forward, so the Toffees will likely consider parting ways with him this month in favor of Mateta as his replacement.
Unlike Beto, the Eagles star is a proven scorer in the Premier League and has proven over multiple seasons that he can provide a big threat in front of goal.
According to Sofascore, Mateta has scored double figures in goals in each competition over the past three seasons, including 10 goals in 33 games this term, while Beto has not reached double figures in league goals since the 2022/23 season, when he played for Serie A side Udinese.

As you can see from the table above, the Crystal Palace frontman is clearly superior to Beto as a Premier League striker, finisher, goalscorer and creator, based on his form over almost three seasons so far.
Their statistics in the final third are night and day. If Everton have the chance to let go of Portugal’s failure and bring in the Eagles’ star player in Hill Dickinson, they must seize it.
Hailed as “extraordinary” by journalist Rory Smith, Mateta could join the Blues in earnest as a prolific Premier League star who has already shown he can score goals regularly for England.
Considering Beto’s overall poor performance in front of goal since his arrival from Udinese in the summer of 2023, replacing him with Mateta would be a smart move for Moyes and would finally give him a reliable goalscorer.

Everton will hope this goal has a similar impact on Garner
That’s why the manager should urge his board to do all they can to sign the French international from their Premier League rivals for £40m before the transfer window closes next week.
