  • Manchester United to sign new forward after Carrick’s perfect start

  • ‘Very technically gifted’ Meite could be a future star

Manchester United have shown strong interest in signing an “exciting” new forward, who is currently being targeted by a number of Premier League clubs.

Manchester United to sign new forward after Carrick’s perfect start

Michael Carrick made the perfect start as Manchester City’s caretaker manager, leading his side to a 2-0 win over Manchester City, but they could have won by an even bigger margin had three goals been ruled out for offside.

United have a chance to progress into the top four today after Liverpool lost 3-2 to AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, but they will have their work cut out for them as they face league leaders Arsenal at 4:30pm at the Emirates Stadium.

Carrick’s decision to leave out Benjamin Sesco in the last game against City was a bold one considering he had scored twice in the 2-2 draw with Burnley in the Premier League the previous game, but it paid off in the end with Brian Mbeumo scoring the opening goal.

It remains to be seen whether Sesco can return to the Englishman’s plans in the near future, but the Red Devils have joined the race to sign another striker who has had an excellent season in Ligue 1.

This is according to a report from CaughtOffside, which claims Man United are currently keen to sign Rennes striker Mohamed Kader Meiteh, who was the subject of a €40m (approximately £35m) offer from Saudi Professional League side Al Hilal.

Many Premier League clubs are also interested in signing Meite, who is on the fence about moving to Saudi Arabia, with Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Newcastle United also showing interest, so there could be fierce competition to sign him.

However, the French club has little interest in allowing him to leave mid-season, with the forward still under contract until 2028 and holding all the cards in the negotiations.

‘Very technically gifted’ Meite could be a future star

The Rennes star has been described as “very technically gifted” by journalist Bence Boksak, and was praised by scout Jacek Kulig for his “great top speed and acceleration” earlier this season.

It has been a real breakthrough season for the 18-year-old, who has established himself as a regular in Rennes’ first team, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 17 Ligue 1 appearances.

The speedster is showing signs of being a future star, but there is some question as to whether Man United, who signed Sesco in the summer, need to bring in another young striker at this stage.

The Slovenian international hasn’t had the best start to his time at Old Trafford, but he is now starting to find his footing, scoring three goals in his last two competitive matches, and with Joshua Zirkzee and Mbeumo also available, Carrick is well-equipped to fill the centre-forward position.
