According to The Athletic, FC Cincinnati is nearing a loan agreement with Liverpool’s Polish youth goalkeeper Fabian Mrozzek. This arrangement includes an option for Cincinnati to buy him, allowing them to assess his integration and performance in Major League Soccer. Mrozek spent the latter part of last season on loan at Forest Green Rovers in the National League.

He transferred to Liverpool from Polish club FC Wrocław for £250,000 in the summer of 2020 and has had considerable involvement at the youth level, making 17 appearances in Premier League 2 after progressing through the club’s academy.

The Role of Third-Choice Goalkeeper

It has been reported that Mrozek is set to take on the role of FC Cincinnati’s No. 3 goalkeeper. American Roman Celentano will remain the starting goalie, while 30-year-old Evan Louro provides experienced backup. Following Paul Walters’ loan to the Irish side Bohemians, Mrozek fills a vacancy in the squad.

Last Season’s Playoff Candidates

Cincinnati begins the new season with a solid defense, anchored by U.S. international Myles Robinson and former Chelsea defender Matt Miazga. The team finished second in the Eastern Conference last season but was eliminated from the playoffs by Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.

What Happens Next?

FC Cincinnati will compete in the Concacaf Champions Cup, starting with an away match against Universidad O&M on February 18. The two teams will meet again on February 25 at TQL Stadium.

Fan Take: This loan move is significant for soccer fans as it introduces emerging international talent to the MLS, enhancing the league’s competitive edge. It could also signal Cincinnati’s ambition to keep strengthening their squad, making them a team to watch in the upcoming season.
