Fabrizio Romano has been given the green light to join Nottingham Forest by saying yes to Tricky Trees’ ‘last-minute’ move in January.

Nottingham Forest look to back Sean Dyche with important deal

It’s been a busy 24 hours at the City Ground, with Sean Dyche’s side looking to make up for the news that Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta is likely to be absent.

The Frenchman was at one point believed to be on the verge of a move to Forest, but AC Milan have moved to the front of the queue for his signature after agreeing personal terms with Mateta.

The 28-year-old now appears ready to join the Rossoneri in ongoing negotiations with Milan.

After this transfer blow, Forest moved on to other targets.

In fact, Forest manager has stepped up his preparations for deadline day by having Inter Milan accept the loan contract of Italian midfielder Davide Frattesi, and any transfer will depend entirely on the player’s final decision.

Sky Italia reported on Friday night that Inter had accepted Forest’s loan offer for Frattessi with an option to buy, despite the Nerazzurri insisting they would only accept a permanent offer.

The Midlands club’s transfer business isn’t over yet…

Reports in Italy suggest that manager Frattesi has already agreed to a move to the City Ground, paving the way for final negotiations between the clubs to be completed soon.

The midfielder has struggled to find consistent starting opportunities under manager Cristian Chivu this season, making just 19 appearances in all competitions, scoring no goals but registering three assists.

Italy coach Gennaro Gattuso is reportedly concerned due to Frattesi’s limited game time and is monitoring the situation closely.

His last Serie A start came 16 matchdays ago against Cremonese on 4 October, underscoring his peripheral role at San Siro this season.

In addition to Frattesi, Forest are also reportedly close to signing a new goalkeeper.

Nottingham Forest agree to sign Man City stopper Stefan Ortega

According to Romano, according to X, the club completed a last-gasp deal with the German and said: “Let’s go.”

Forest held talks with Jose Sa and other potential goalkeepers, but it was Ortega who gave the go-ahead to replace the 33-year-old, who is on his way for a medical.

The keeper is third in manager Josep Guardiola’s pecking order behind Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford. Given that Ortega’s contract also expires this summer, leaving the club was always on the cards this month.

Despite not featuring at the Etihad, the former 1860 Munich star did not disappoint City whenever he played.

His best contribution in a City shirt came at the end of the 2023/2024 season, when he saved a one-on-one with Tottenham legend Son Heung-min, a big moment in the Premier League title race.

Guardiola lavished praise on his then second-choice keeper, calling him “world class” after his heroic stop.

“Ortega is a world-class goalkeeper,” Guardiola said after the match.

“An extraordinary, extraordinary goalkeeper. Ederson didn’t have a concussion, but he had a problem with his eyes. He couldn’t see properly, so the doctor told me to change.”
