Yankees Social Media Shines Bright: Celebrating the Captain’s Legacy

Today is Sunday, which means it’s time for our weekly roundup of social media highlights. While New York City has thankfully avoided snowstorms for the third consecutive Sunday, the Boreas—a cold northern wind named after Greek mythology—is still chilling the Northeast with temperatures in the single digits. Despite bundling up in multiple layers to fend off the cold, the first hints of spring are starting to appear. You might be curious how this weather is possible on the very first day of February; let’s explore!

Honoring America’s MVP
Last Saturday, the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) hosted its annual awards ceremony, where Yankees captain Aaron Judge took home the American League MVP Award for the third time in his career. He was introduced by former teammate Anthony Rizzo, and Sujin Waldman and Dave Sims were also present to celebrate the achievement.

But that was not all—MLB The Show announced that Judge will be the cover athlete for this year’s edition, marking the second time he has graced the game’s cover since 2018. He is only the second player ever to receive this honor twice, following Joe Mauer in the early 2010s.

Congrats to Carlos and Ashley
Judge wasn’t the only Yankee recognized at the ceremony. Carlos Rodon and his wife Ashley were honored with the Joanne Payson and Shannon Forde Community Service Award for their work through the Rodon Foundation, which supports couples facing infertility challenges.

Belize Makes a Comeback
The Yankees recently confirmed the re-signing of Cody Bellinger. To celebrate, the team’s social media posted a special video spotlighting Bellinger’s deep roots with the Yankees, as his father Clay played for New York in the late ’90s. A nostalgic touch for fans who might already know that background!

New Tech in the Bronx
Second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr., alongside his foundation, helped create a cutting-edge computer lab for students at CS55 in the Bronx, making a positive impact off the field.

Wells Family Celebration
Yankees catcher Austin Wells and his partner joyfully welcomed a baby girl named Lucy Marie Wells this week. Congratulations to the new parents!

Retirement of D-Rob
David Robertson, former Yankees reliever and 2009 World Series champion, officially announced his retirement via Instagram this week, closing the chapter on an impressive career.

Goodbye, Lasagna
Jonathan Loaisiga recently signed a minor league deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks, ending his decade-long tenure with the Yankees. Loaisiga, known for his dynamic pitching but often sidelined by injuries, spent the last eight years with the team balancing roles as a starter and reliever. We wish him success as he aims to revive his career following major setbacks in 2024 and 2025.

Snow Day Reminder
Last week brought a heavy snowfall—a timely reminder that while the cold is intense, it’s also the kind of weather that requires actual shoveling rather than just bundling up.

CC Sabathia voiced his frustration on social media, though many noted the irony as he’s been spending the winter golfing in Florida and other warm spots.

Moving Day in Tampa
With the arrival of a new season, the Yankees’ staff and equipment crew packed up last Friday, heading south to their spring training location in Tampa, Florida.

Fan Take:
Aaron Judge’s continued dominance and multiple MVP awards underscore why he’s one of the most exciting figures in baseball today, inspiring both teammates and fans alike. The mix of player achievements, charitable efforts, and roster changes highlighted in this update signals a season of both promise and transition that baseball enthusiasts won’t want to miss.
