Paddy Pimblett Reveals Eye Poke Injury in Fight with Justin Gaethje, Bounces Back to Contact Training

Paddy Pimblett has already put on his gloves and resumed training just over a week after his high-profile fight. Recently, “The Buddy” faced Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC 324, battling for the interim lightweight title—an event marking the biggest fight of his career so far.

After five intense rounds, Gaethje, known as “The Highlight,” secured the interim championship, becoming the first fighter ever to hold an interim title twice. For Pimblett, however, this loss means he must start rebuilding his path, likely facing several contenders before earning another shot at UFC gold.

The UFC 324 main event was officially named the Fight of the Month, setting an exciting tone for the year. Though Pimblett escaped major injuries, his face was badly battered. On Sunday, the 31-year-old shared an update revealing he might have suffered a corneal scratch and a poke to his eye, but nothing too serious.

By Monday, the British fighter was already back in contact training, posting a photo on social media of himself on the mat wearing gloves. He captioned the update with enthusiasm: “Back in the lab. Happy to be back training. Before you know it, I’ll be in that Octagon, believe me guys.”

Fans and fellow fighters alike have rallied behind Pimblett as he prepares to bounce back from his first UFC defeat. Known for his struggles with discipline outside training—often indulging in junk food and experiencing rapid weight fluctuations—Pimblett appears to be driven by a strong desire for redemption this time around.

Before facing Gaethje, Pimblett dismissed the notion that a win over Ilya Topuria would immediately grant him another title unification bout. Topuria has fights lined up between April and June, but Pimblett felt it was too soon for him to return. In his latest update, he expressed hopes of competing again this summer, mentioning Benoit Saint-Denis as a possible next opponent.

Fan Take: Paddy Pimblett’s quick return to training signals his determination to rebound swiftly, which keeps fans eagerly anticipating his next move.
