Aston Villa are reportedly set to pursue an ambitious move for RB Leipzig centre-back Castello Lukeba this summer.

We previously reported that the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea are eyeing Lukba, but it seems there are many other big names who want to be in the race to sign him.

Sports Boom reports that big names such as Arsenal, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and even Aston Villa would offer Lukba around €60 million.

There’s no mention of Liverpool or Chelsea in this particular report, but we imagine they’ll be among the names to watch again following their previous interest.

Lucuba made a huge impression at Leipzig, but also looked like an elite prospect during his time at former club Lyon.

The Frenchman has been known for some time, with Get French Football News often covering him as far back as 2022.

They pointed to his impressive stats for his age, quoting former Lyon captain Leo Dubois, saying: “He is a young player, but there is a lot of maturity in his game. He is a great listener and is hungry to learn. He is a player who is showing his qualities. I am happy for him.”

Can Villa realistically win the race to sign Castello Lukeba?

With so many elite teams interested in him, it looks like a big ask for Villa to pass up competition for Lukba.

There is no doubt that the 23-year-old could play for almost any team he wants, but a move to Villa Park could be a wise move at this stage of his career.

Even if Liverpool and Chelsea were able to field the defender, there will always be plenty of competition in such teams, but Villa would certainly be a safer bet in terms of playing regularly and getting a chance to develop.

Perhaps this could pave the way for Lukaba to move to a bigger club later in his career.
