According to TEAMtalk, the Blues face interest in Fernandes and Caicedo from Real Madrid, but are now certainly keen to keep the pair, with Los Blancos looking elsewhere.

Chelsea fans will be hoping that negotiations over new contracts for Fernandes and Caicedo go well. Because they seem to be two very important parts of this current project.

Despite returning to the Champions League last year and winning major silver medals in the form of the European Conference League and Club World Cup, it hasn’t been the best of times for Chelsea under their current ownership.

However, while most CFC supporters will be keen to see their club challenge for the Premier League title again, there is currently not much evidence that the current transfer policy is working.

However, there is no doubt that the signings of Fernandes and Caicedo were a huge success, even though the players signed by Bruco failed to reach their full potential.

Argentina and Ecuador are among the best players in the world in their positions and retaining them is certainly key to moving this project forward.

It’s easy to see why Real Madrid were interested in them, but it looks like the west Londoners don’t need to worry too much about the Spanish giants.

TEAMtalk went on to say that Real are considering other midfield targets, including Paris Saint-Germain star Vicinha.

The report also hints at potentially bad news for Liverpool, with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai also mentioned as options under consideration.

This story will definitely become very interesting if Chelsea finish above Liverpool in the Premier League this season and beat them to qualify for the Champions League.
