Tottenham Hotspur are in real trouble. After just three games, Igor Tudor’s position as interim manager is already under threat.

The crushing defeat to Arsenal in the first game was tolerable, if not unbearable, but subsequent defeats against Fulham and Crystal Palace left the North Londoners in the awkward position of legitimate relegation in the Premier League.

With time running out and both West Ham United and Nottingham Forest accumulating points and remaining just one point behind Spurs on the edge of the drop zone, the board may have to take drastic action.

Tottenham have lost their last five Premier League games and will travel to Anfield to face Liverpool next weekend. If Tudor’s appointment was a mistake, it’s time for change.

Latest information on Tudor’s Spurs future

At 47 years old, Tudor’s managerial longevity has been rather short, averaging just 0.67 years over his 11 managerial appointments. His hit-and-run reputation is even more understandable considering he was only drafted four times at the start of the season.

But things are not going well at Tottenham. The situation continues to worsen and the crisis in our position only deepens. In fact, the Telegraph has even reported that the Londoner is already considering a new appointment.

Ferencvaros manager Robbie Keane has been mentioned as a candidate, but the Irish legend is inexperienced and would be a risk, even though he has been highly successful over the years and has deep links with the Lilywhites.

Instead, Tottenham could appoint an experienced manager who captures their youthful, progressive essence but has more managerial credentials than someone like Keane.

That man could be Edin Terzic, who has been unemployed since leaving Borussia Dortmund in 2024. The German was linked with a move to N17 just last month, but the powers that be have since opted to appoint Tudor instead.

Terzic may not have as much experience as other candidates, but he did a great job at Dortmund and also has Premier League experience, having previously played under Slaven Bilic at West Ham United.

Why Terzic is perfect for Spurs

Terzic, 43, finished his professional career in 2013 and became a scout at the Yellow Wall, then an assistant coach, before eventually taking over the top job after a successful interim 2020/21 season.

Obviously, retaining their top-flight status should be the first stop for any powerhouse taking the next step, but with a manager like the forward-thinking and entertaining manager Tottenham could thrive on. In fact, his intense, aggressive tactical approach has been described by former professional David James as “similar to Jurgen Klopp”.

In addition, he is a talented motivator and managed to create a state of harmony in Dortmund during his three-year reign, leading the Germans to the Champions League final in the 2023/24 season, where they lost to Real Madrid.

However, Klopp also lost his first few Champions League finals, but bounced back at Liverpool to become one of the club’s most decorated managers. Could Terzic play such a role at Tottenham?

He already has the pedigree and his combination of coaching skills and interpersonal management could be the key to success unlocking this rusty Spurs side, making him a better fit than Keane, who is yet to manage in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

The 43-year-old, who usually plays in a traditional 4-2-3-1 formation, will restore a semblance of normalcy to the N17, where Tudor’s three-man backline has so far been unimpressive.

The gruff Italian is somewhat of a pragmatist, and considering it’s already clear he’s hit a wall, perhaps sacking him and replacing him with Terzic might prove the masterstroke (or at least a sign of good fortune) that Lange and the others are looking for.

Former Dortmund star Gio Reyna has previously praised the German’s “high-intensity” method, and implementing that strategy in north London is sure to captivate the fan base from the get-go.

Tottenham might opt for Keane if they decide to sack Tudor this month, which would be a big gamble, but it’s still possible to get the perfect profile in Terzic.
