2026 Players Championship Odds: Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy are sure favorites

The PGA Tour’s best players will converge on the flagship event this week as preparations begin for the 2026 Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. TPC Sawgrass once again serves as the gracious host that has been conquered by some of the game’s top names in recent years.

Pete Dye’s grueling test of the masterpiece boasts as many recent winners as any event in the world. Rory McIlroy (2019, 2025), Scottie Scheffler (2023, 2024), Cameron Smith (2022) and Justin Thomas (2021) have emerged from an elite field over the past six years at TPC Sawgrass.

Still, the 2026 season to this point has been defined by the depth of the PGA Tour’s top echelons. Continuing last year’s trend of having different players win each signature event, the past 11 such trophies have been won without a single repeat champion.

Scheffler and McIlroy still enter the field as two of the best in the world, but the gap between them and the next tier of PGA Tour stars appears to be narrowing and growing at the same time.

That’s reflected in the odds sheet, with Scheffler (4-1) and McIlroy (13-1) still the clear favorites to win. There are 13 players below him with 40 wins and 1 loss or more. That includes not only multi-time major winners like Collin Morikawa (19-1) and Xander Schauffele (25-1) looking to get back to form in 2026, but also emerging stars like Ludwig Oberg (25-1) and last week’s winner Akshay Bhatia (35-1) looking to solidify their place among the game’s elite.

The 2026 Players Championship will be a fascinating battle between the two dominant forces in the game and a field looking to close the gap even further. Scheffler had a frustrating week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and McIlroy had to. Withdrawal due to back spasmsboth have faced doubts, but they have combined to win four of the past five Players titles.

Will someone else lift the golden trophy in 2026, or will Scheffler and McIlroy reaffirm their dominance and earn another golden statuette? That’s the question oddsmakers are asking this week at TPC Sawgrass.
