INDIAN WELLS, Calif. — Yannik Sinner defeated Daniil Medvedev 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4) in the Indian Wells final on Sunday, rallying from a 4-0 deficit in the second set tiebreaker to score seven straight points and win the title without dropping a set.

The second-ranked Italian defeated Medvedev for the ninth time in his last 10 fights, clinching his first title at the California desert tournament. Medvedev suffered his first loss of the year to top seed Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open.

Mr Sinner congratulated fellow Italian Kimi Antonelli on winning the F1 Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday.

“It has nothing to do with tennis, but it was a special day for Italy,” Sinner said. “I’m a big F1 fan and it’s great that Kimi, a very young Italian, has brought Italy back to the top. So thank you Kimi, thank you F1 and see you next year.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
