Bryson DeChambeau defeats Jon Rahm in playoff to win second straight LIV golf event

LIV Golf’s biggest stars went head-to-head at Sunday’s South Africa tournament, but it was Bryson DeChambeau who defeated Jon Rahm in a playoff to take the lead with his second consecutive tournament win. DeChambeau and Rahm both finished at 26 under after 72 holes in a low-scoring week at The Club at Steyn City, securing a dual victory at the LIV Golf 3 Tournament in March.

DeChambeau hit his best shot of the day on the par-5 18th, his second shot of the day. From 285 yards to go, he hit a strong 3-wood from the muddy rough, carried the bunker to the front of the green, and ran the ball to the height of the hole, making a good impression on Eagle.

Although he didn’t make the putt, DeChambeau was overcome with emotion as his birdie was enough to win his second straight victory.

When asked why he got so emotional, DeChambeau replied, “I wish I could have told him.” “A lot has happened this past week. I’m really grateful to my team, the Crushers, and everyone who has supported me.”

“It’s very interesting. Golf is a fickle sport and you work hard all your life, but golf is just golf and you realize there’s so much more to life than just golf. A few things happened this week in my off time, but I have the ability to move forward and keep looking forward.” I’ve been praying all day for strength. I have to say I love you all. Thank you for your support. South Africa was incredible. It’s going to be the best LIV event ever. ”

DeChambeau, who defeated Richard Lee in a playoff in Singapore last week, earned his second win of the year by defeating LIV’s other top dog, Rahm, who won the last Hong Kong tournament.

On the team side, DeChambeau’s Crushers narrowly defeated South Africa’s Southern Guards by one stroke, 76 under par to 75 under par, giving DeChambeau the individual and team titles. With this victory, the Crushers became the winningest team in LIV Golf’s young history.

LIV Golf will take a break until the week after the Masters to give Rahm, DeChambeau and other top players time to prepare for the challenge at Augusta National Golf Club. DeChambeau hopes his recent form carries over into the Masters in two weeks. In the last tournament, he was in the final group on Sunday but struggled, finishing four strokes behind eventual champion Rory McIlroy.
