Manchester United and Chelsea will be pitted against each other in the race to sign Aston Villa star Morgan Rodgers, according to Football Insider.
The England international is having another excellent season at Villa and his performances have caught the eye.
The former Middlesbrough man is attracting interest from Man United and Chelsea, as well as Liverpool and Arsenal.
He has been a driving force for Unai Emery’s side this season, becoming the focal point of their attack.
Man United and Chelsea ready to pay big money
According to reports, both Premier League giants are unfazed by Villa’s high bid for Rodgers.
Emery’s side are expected to demand £100m for the 23-year-old, who has eight goals and five assists in 31 appearances in the top flight this season.
Pete O’Rourke told Football Insider:
“His price is going to be quite high. If someone wanted to sign him, it would probably be well over £100m because he has a long-term contract until 2031.
“But even with a price tag like that, it won’t scare people off. Some of the big clubs in the Premier League and across Europe will be ready to test Villa’s resolve in the summer.”
What’s next if Rodgers leaves Aston Villa?
Both Man United and Chelsea could make a strong case for the young attacking Englishman.
The Red Devils and Blues are in a period of transition, but given his form and future ambitions, a move to Man Utd looks more appealing to Rodgers.
It is very likely that Man United can offer him Champions League football next season, but doubts remain for Chelsea.
Rodgers is reportedly open to new challenges in his career and the INEOS-led revolution at Old Trafford could appeal to him.
