  • Wolves eye new midfielder amid uncertainty over Joao Gomez
  • Wolves move into pole position with signing of ‘fantastic’ midfielder
        • £43m Wolves star could become Molineux’s next Vicinha

Competition for the ‘great’ midfielder is starting to heat up, with Wolverhampton Wanderers the frontrunners to sign him, despite interest from Celtic and Rangers.

Wolves eye new midfielder amid uncertainty over Joao Gomez

Wolves’ relegation from the Premier League is yet to be confirmed after they have managed to pick up seven points from their last three games, but manager Rob Edwards has hit back at suggestions that the team has improved in recent weeks due to lower expectations.

Mr Edwards said: “I don’t feel that way. I feel like we’re putting a lot of pressure on them to perform. We have to.”

However, after scoring just 17 points all season, it is almost inevitable that the Old Gold will be playing in Championship football next season, meaning it could be difficult to retain some of their stars.

Joao Gomez is one of the players who is attracting interest from other countries, with Serie A giants Napoli and Premier League rivals Manchester United both in need of a replacement for Casemiro.

Wanderers may need to bring in a replacement if Gomez decides to move on, but they are now in a strong position to win the race for the in-demand central midfielder.

Wolves move into pole position with signing of ‘fantastic’ midfielder

According to a report from Football Insider, Wolves are currently the frontrunners to sign BK Hacken midfielder Silas Andersen and believe he could play a big role in their promotion drive in the Championship next season.

This is despite rival interest from Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic, who are also targeting the 21-year-old, but Old Gold’s parachute payment could help ensure both sides reach the top.

It was revealed earlier this week that Celtic were leading the race to sign the youngster, but this is a new development and there are plenty of signs that he could definitely join Edwards’ team.

£43m Wolves star could become Molineux’s next Vicinha

Rob Edwards could be next in line for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Vicinha.

Scout Jacek Kulig is particularly fond of the Danish maestro, describing him as a “fantastic” holding midfielder and “one of the most interesting midfielders in Scandinavia” last October.

In the 2025 Allsvenskan season, the midfielder averaged a FotMob match rating of 7.57, the highest of any BK Hacken team, while also averaging 3.5 tackles per game, tied for the most of any player, and making the most interceptions (1.7).

The Copenhagen-born ace is also capable of contributing on the front foot, having scored three goals in all competitions since the start of the 2025-26 season.

Given Andersen’s tackling ability, he could be a comparable replacement to Gomez, so it’s encouraging news that Wolves are the frontrunners to sign him this summer.
