The Portugal international has been a star for Man United this season, scoring eight goals and providing 16 assists in the Premier League, and has one year left on his contract at Old Trafford.

Fernandes also has a release clause in his contract with the European club, and reports from BBC Sport and ESPN suggest that Fernandes negotiated the deal himself.

According to a report from Fichajes, PSG are aware of this option and manager Luis Enrique is keen to make the deal happen.

Fiharges has also mentioned interest from Saudi Pro League clubs, but it’s easy to imagine Fernandes himself leaning towards a club like PSG.

The 31-year-old has underachieved in terms of winning major trophies during his time at United, but United are not the force they once were.

Fernandes’ recent form shows that he is still a world-class player at the highest level and he may not be ready to leave Europe just yet, especially given that he could be playing for a club more likely to offer him trophies.

PSG appear to be a good fit for Fernandes, with manager Enrique said to be keen to have him play alongside other Portuguese midfield talents Vicinha and Joao Neves.

All in all, Fernandes is clearly an impressive player and won’t be too expensive, but there’s also an argument that PSG would pay a lot of money for a player who doesn’t have much time left at the top level and probably doesn’t even need that much money.

This is a luxury signing for PSG, which is all well and good, but they could do smarter business this summer.
