When the summer transfer window opens, Manchester United will be on a rampage to sign a midfielder or two.

Casemiro’s confirmation of his departure from Old Trafford only increases the need for not just one, but possibly two new midfielders.

The Red Devils have cast their net at a number of Premier League clubs, with Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali a key target for Sir Jim Ratcliffe & Co.

However, other options remain – Nottingham Forest’s Elliott Anderson and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.

That said, midfield is not the only area of the pitch that United could consider adding to.

Manchester United aims to strengthen attacking power

Last summer, Man United invested heavily in strengthening their front line, bringing in a long-awaited striker in Benjamin Sesco to replace Rasmus Hojlund, who was on loan at Napoli.

Two Premier League players with proven track records and ability have arrived in the side, Matheus Cunha and Brian Mbeumo. They have enjoyed slightly different careers in Manchester so far, but all three found success at different points in the season.

However, Mbemo has not scored in his last six games and could be in need of an upgrade or competition.

Well, they may have found their man in the form of Yann Diomande from RB Leipzig. According to a report from TEAMtalk, Liverpool are said to be “firmly in” the Bundesliga’s whirlwind signing race, but they are not alone.

Indeed, Manchester United and Arsenal have joined their Premier League rivals in the race to sign the Ivorian player this summer.

There may be stiff competition to sign Diomande, but they won’t make a decision on his future until after the World Cup, when interest in the player will increase further.

Red Bull executives consider the winger the “most exciting” talent since Erling Haaland, and have therefore placed a huge price tag on his shoulders.

The paper notes that Leipzig are likely to accept an offer of around £87m to persuade them to sell the wide player this summer.

Comparison of Diomande and Amad Diallo

Now, I know what you’re probably thinking here. Will we see another young and exciting Bundesliga winger? Certainly, this doesn’t mean a situation like Jadon Sancho’s will happen again.

Man United signed the former Borussia Dortmund winger for a whopping £73 million in 2021, but he has shown no signs of repaying the transfer fee.

The former Bundesliga winger has been back in English football for five years, having had several loan spells with Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa. He has only scored 12 goals so far in the famous Red Strip, and has also provided six assists. He is a shadow of the player who was one of the best players in Germany’s top flight.

The similarities with Diomand are eerily similar. Still only 19 years old, he has been described by Football FanCast’s sources as “the best winger in the world of the future,” and there is reason to believe he could be, judging by his characteristics.

Scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists in 2025/26 may sound like surprising numbers, but the sheer amount of ways he influences games is truly exciting.

Hailed as an “unstoppable” talent by reporter Bence Boksack, no player in the entire Bundesliga this season has recorded more dribbling success than Diomande.

In fact, the young forward is better than everyone else with 4.2 points per 90 minutes. To put this figure into a larger context, the next best player is his Leipzig teammate Antonio Nusa, who has made 3.3 per 90, while Amad Diallo’s best at Old Trafford is just 1.4.

Speaking of Amado, Diomande’s compatriot and the one who could suffer the most from his possible arrival.

Indeed, for much of the season he has had a rivalry with Mbeumo for minutes on the right wing, but he could be overtaken by the Leipzig star. Diomand has an overwhelming advantage in terms of numbers.

Leipzig’s teenage superstar has not only scored significantly more goals and provided more assists per 90 minutes, but has also become far more efficient inside the penalty area.

His shot accuracy is marginally better, but it’s the conversion rate that paints the picture. Amad is one of the worst wingers in that regard. Diomand, on the other hand, is ruthless. He regularly creates chances and dances a cheerful jig around defenders, making him a real nuisance for opposition defences.

Looking at the stats, it would appear that he is tailored for the Premier League and is tailored to make a big impact at Manchester United.

Amad would do well to keep an eye on whether he can get his national team-mates this summer.
