Glasgow Rangers suffered a muscular injury in Tour Romance last month, forcing him to miss several games.

The Belgian full-back last appeared for the Light Blues in the 4-1 win over Aberdeen before the March international break, missing games against Dundee United and Falkirk.

Danny Rolle signed the defender from Westeros for £3m during the January transfer window, strengthening his full-back options and hitting the ground running at Ibrox.

Lomence attracted attention in the Scottish Premiership with his attacking play from the full-back position, scoring one goal and creating four ‘big chances’, but has been replaced by Jayden Meghoma in recent games.

Unfortunately, the left-back, who is currently on loan at Brentford, has not produced particularly impressive performances in the wins over Dundee United and Falkirk.

Why the Rangers should drop Jaden Meghoma

The England youngster has struggled in the last two games since Romens replaced him due to injury and should be left out of the starting XI.

Against Dundee United, Meghoma lost six of his nine defenses and only managed an expected assists (xA) of 0.03 at the other end. This shows that he was weak defensively and lacked quality on the final ball.

In the 6-3 win over Falkirk, a defender missed an interception in the box that led to Ben Broggio’s opener, but on another day he could have been red for a high challenge as the last man in the middle of the park.

Unfortunately, Meghoma should be left out of the squad as he hasn’t shown the quality on or off the ball to warrant a role as Rangers’ left-back while Romens is out injured.

But without the Belgian star, the Light Blues head coach will be without another natural left-back in his first team, who will be drafted into the team when they face Motherwell later this month.

How can Danny Rolle replace Jaden Meghoma?

However, if Lomence is unavailable for the match against Motherwell, Rohr will not have to replace Meghoma with a natural left-back in the starting line-up, but he could get creative and unleash the star in a new position.

Mohamed Diomande was an unused substitute in three of the last four Premiership games, but came on in the final five minutes of Sunday’s 6-3 win over Falkirk in central midfield.

In Rolle’s eyes, the £4m signing fee has seen Toti Chukwani, Nicholas Raskin and Conor Barron do more to earn them more minutes on the pitch, leaving them down the pecking order in his preferred position.

Diomande has had a frustrating season at Ibrox as his form has declined after an impressive 2024-25 season under Philippe Clement and Barry Ferguson, in which he scored four goals and provided seven assists in the Premiership.

The left-footed star showed his quality in and out of possession for Gers in the league last season, winning most of their matches while scoring and assisting from midfield.

This season has not gone well for Diomando so far, who was described as “exasperating” in possession by content creator Michael McEwan, which is why he has struggled for minutes in recent days, but Rohr could reignite his Rangers career by unleashing the midfielder into a completely new role as left-back.

The 24-year-old star has started at left-back in two of his career, but has never started for Rangers, but with Premiership experience, being a natural left-footer and possessing maximum energy and strength, he could be an interesting option for the role ahead of Meghoma.

If Rohr can get Diomande to perform at his best, the Ivorian would be an excellent left-back for Rangers thanks to his dueling superiority, excellent technical ability under pressure and great engine.

However, there is a possibility that his struggles in midfield this season will carry over to left-back as well. But given Meghoma’s inexperience and his struggles at left-back in recent games, it’s a risk worth taking.

So in the absence of Romans, Roll will have to get creative and free up Diomand in a completely new role to drop Megoma from the team against Motherwell.
