  • Newcastle United are ready to make big changes

Newcastle United are gearing up for a crucial summer transfer window, with the club preparing to say a painful farewell.

The biggest departure was the confirmation of Kieran Trippier’s departure.

Manager Eddie Howe recently announced that the 35-year-old veteran full-back will be packing up his bags when his contract expires at the end of this season.

As the first major signing of the new ownership in 2022, it is difficult to overstate the impact Trippier has had on the club’s culture.

Howe was again full of praise this week, calling the defender a “model of consistency” and cementing his place as one of the best players he has ever managed.

The split is reportedly mutually agreed upon, but Trippier’s on-field qualities and locker-room leadership will make it a monumental task to replace him.

According to Shields Gazette, fellow defensive mainstay Fabian Schaal is currently weighing in on his future at the club.

The 34-year-old centre-back is keen to stay for a few more years and finish his career in black and white.

However, a recent string of severe injuries has made contract negotiations extremely complicated.

Shah, who has barely played since January due to an ankle problem, recently suffered another setback with an infection in his foot that required surgery and will keep him sidelined for another month.

With his contract coming to an end, time is running out for the Swiss international to prove he can still physically withstand the demands of Howe’s high-intensity system.

Trippier is not the only casualty of this financial reality check, with fellow defender Emil Craft and loan keeper Aaron Ramsdale widely expected to be shown the door to make room for younger, higher-rate talent.

Howe and the board understand that they cannot afford to stand still in the Premier League.

It will be a bittersweet summer for Tyneside, but it is a necessary evolution if the Magpies want to maintain a consistent commitment to European football.
