Shearer reveals ‘exactly what Liverpool were missing’ in tonight’s game against PSG

Liverpool suffered a 2-0 defeat against PSG at Anfield in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

After losing the first leg away 2-0, they were hoping to overturn their home deficit, but the defending European champions got the job done at Anfield and will go into the competition semi-finals with a combined result from both legs.

There is no doubt that Liverpool put in a great performance against PSG tonight, but they lacked the cutting edge in the final third. Despite putting a lot of pressure on the away team for the majority of the match, they were unable to create too many chances and failed to get on the scoresheet.

Former Premier League star Alan Shearer revealed that a bit of quality and brilliance on the edge of the box is what separates the sides.

PSG struggled for most of the match, but took the lead in the second half when Ousmane Dembele scored with a shot from outside the box.

Shearer told the BBC: “That’s exactly what Liverpool have been missing tonight, and for most of this season, quality and brilliance on the edge of the box. The way he changes that is great forward play from Ousmane Dembele. Great finishing.”

Dembele doubled his team’s advantage late in the match, securing a 2–0 win in the second leg. They will face either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals.

Liverpool will aim to finish in the top five in the Premier League next season and qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Things will get even more difficult for the team in the remaining games after Hugo Ekitike suffered a season-ending injury earlier tonight.
