  • Tavernier challenges Rangers to victory
        • Rangers duo play ‘last game’ at Ibrox, no future under Roll
  • Rangers support signing Alebios if Tavernier leaves

The Randers are backing signing the newly-capped Nigeria international to replace James Tavanier this summer.

Tavernier challenges Rangers to victory

Tavernier challenged Rangers to win five games after the split and claim William Hill Premiership glory.

In-form Ibrox are just one point behind leaders Hearts, who they face in a potential decider on May 4, and two points behind city rivals Celtic.

If they win all five remaining games, Gers will be guaranteed their first league win since 2021.

“We can only focus on ourselves and no one else,” said Tavernier, the only current Rangers player and long-time captain who helped them win five years ago. “We just need to win five games and hope that gets us where we want to be at the end of the season.

“Obviously that is the aim and we want to get clean sheets going forward as well and not try to make the game difficult for ourselves.”

With no games this weekend, Rangers, like title rivals Hearts, are currently recharging for a run-in at the Spanish resort of La Manga.

“Obviously just bonding and having some intimate time with the boys,” Tavernier said of the warm-weather getaway.

Their future lies away from Glasgow.

“This is the last stage so it’s important to really get the players together, because we’ve probably only been able to do this in pre-season.

“This is a time where we can spend five days with each other, grow together and finish the season strong.”

Rangers support signing Alebios if Tavernier leaves

Contract negotiations between Rangers and Tavernier have stalled, and the clock is ticking until the captain is handed a new contract, with the player set to leave for free at the end of the season.

The 34-year-old is one of the club’s highest-paid players and reports suggest he would like a longer-term deal than the one currently on offer from Gers.

And journalist Michael McEwan urged the club to consider Blackburn Rovers star Ryan Alebios as his replacement if a compromise cannot be found.

The 24-year-old has a contract until 2028, but Blackburn are in danger of being relegated and could be forced to sell the player on the cheap this summer.

Rangers are expected to make a significant contribution to Danny Rolle in the transfer market.

Alebios, who has provided four assists in 37 Championship games this season, was described as “fantastic” by Rovers manager Michael O’Neill and recently earned his first senior cap for Nigeria.
