Liverpool central midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai made another appearance, putting in an impressive performance in Sunday’s Premier League game against Everton.

The Hungarian international was selected by coach Arne Slott to line up in the center of the park alongside Ryan Gravenbirch, leaving Alexis Mac Allister on the bench, and he attracted attention with his performance.

It was his corner corner that Virgil van Dijk headed in in stoppage time to score the winning goal. The set piece was played into the perfect area and the captain slotted the ball in to make it 2-1.

In addition to assisting the winner, Szoboszlai completed 93% (54/58) of his attempted passes throughout the match, providing the visiting team with a reliable outlet for the ball.

Mohamed Salah may end up winning the award in his farewell campaign with the Reds, but the Hungarian star deserves to be named the club’s Player of the Year.

Why Dominik Szoboszlai was named Liverpool’s Player of the Year

No other Liverpool player has performed as consistently for the club in 2025-26 as he stood out as a mainstay in the slot.

Only Virgil van Dijk (2,970) has played more minutes in the Premier League than Szoboszlai (2,783), but the Dutch defender has also made mistakes, with four of his errors leading to shots, goals or penalties.

The 25-year-old star has played in 48 games in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists, making him a major attacking threat, playing like a mainstay in the middle of the park.

Szoboszlai, who had to play 10 games as a right-back and 10 games as a right-midfielder, excelled in a number of statistics in and out of possession for the Reds in the Premier League.

The former RB Leipzig star is worthy of being Liverpool’s player of the year, as he has contributed greatly to the team’s play both in and out of possession and has been a consistent fixture.

Liverpool have already signed their next Dominik Szoboszlai

In the 2-1 win over Everton in the Merseyside derby, one player suggested that Slott was already waiting for the next version of Szoboszlai to shine in the side.

Central midfielder Curtis Jones was asked to play right-back for the Reds and did an excellent job for Liverpool, despite Jeremy Frimpong being on the bench.

Despite playing at right-back, the England international faced home in an unfamiliar position and became the only player to finish the game with over 100 touches on the ball.

Not only did Jones rank first in the game in touches, but he also recovered the ball the most between the two teams, with a whopping 16 possessions.

Despite not being a natural right-back, his positioning was excellent throughout the game, putting his body in the right positions to protect the ball and avoid being exposed to the opposition.

Szoboszlai has started just three games at right-back this season before his trip to Hill-Dickinson, but his lack of experience did not show, as he is usually used at right-back when a natural option is not selected.

Jones started behind Salah, who scored the opening goal of the match, but his impressive positioning and defensive play meant that the Egyptian winger didn’t have to do as many hard yards defensively, allowing him to focus on being the match-winner.

The Liverpool academy graduate has only started 13 of 29 Premier League games this season, but the 25-year-old has shown he can be the next Szoboszlai in the slot.

He has the technical qualities and athleticism to be an excellent option in central midfield and right-back for the Reds, as he has been throughout this season.

Jones may not be able to score four free-kicks in a Premier League season, but he has proven he can be an incredibly valuable player for the Dutch manager.
