    • What did Sir Alex Ferguson say about Michael Carrick?

Fabrizio Romano has shared an important update on Manchester United’s search for their next permanent manager after Michael Carrick spoke about his future at the club this week.

Carrick said he loves being manager of Manchester United but is not “chasing for answers” about his future after the season.

It has been 100 days since the Red Devils appointed the former midfielder, captain and coach to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the remainder of the season following Ruben Amorim’s acrimonious departure in January.

Since then, Carrick have exceeded the expectations of many onlookers, finishing third in the Premier League with wins over the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and most recently Chelsea.

With United so close to qualifying for the Champions League, talk has naturally turned to next season, but it is still unclear whether the 44-year-old will stay.

“I’ve said it many times, but I’m enjoying being here and I’m enjoying the role that I have,” Carrick said ahead of Monday’s home game against Brentford.

“We’ve had some good results and we’re in decent shape. We still want to keep improving, there’s a demographic we really want to reach. You’ll see that.

“I keep saying the same thing every week. There’s only so much I can say about it, but I’ve said it over and over again.”

“Again, I enjoy being here. I love being here. It’s a real honor to be in the position that we’re in, thriving with the responsibilities that we have.”

Hoping for clarity, Carrick said:

“Actually, what I’m really looking for is not a deadline. It’ll be clear when it’s going to be clear. It’s going to be clear.”

“I’m here now to help the team and help the club get results.

“At the moment we’re on track. We can keep pushing and get better. So that’s really all I’m focused on right now.”

Fabrizio Romano names Carrick a ‘serious’ candidate

Romano said on his YouTube channel that United’s board is currently seriously considering handing the reins to Carrick.

“The feeling inside United is that they are very happy, very happy with Michael Carrick, and even more so recently.

“It’s been a very good start, but in recent weeks Michael Carrick has looked very likely to be given a permanent job at Man United.”

Carrick will certainly have the backing of one man – none other than Sir Alex Ferguson, who helped guide the 44-year-old to greatness as a coach during his playing days.

What did Sir Alex Ferguson say about Michael Carrick?

Coach Ferguson chose him for the role years ago and is thought to be in favor of handing the job permanently to his former student.

“From the moment we acquired Michael in 2006, his personality has always been outstanding,” said the legendary boss.

“He is a football man and his character and ability combined meant he was sure to be a huge success at United.”
