Last summer was supposed to be a big one for Liverpool, but it was an outlier and should have been a huge boost to the Reds heading into their next era of success.
However, Arne Slott’s second year in charge has not gone as planned and FSG are currently in a predicament over the Anfield head coaching position. Will he stay or go? Many fans will argue that change is needed, but those in the know believe Slott will be given the key to a third term and tasked with fixing Liverpool’s problems.
Problems in attack and midfield need to be addressed, and although Liverpool’s defensive problems have eased over the course of the calendar year, sporting director Richard Hughes remains keen to add strength at the back.
Virgil van Dijk is not set to follow long-time dance partner Mohamed Salah in leaving the club this summer, but the veteran captain is expected to leave within a year when his contract expires.
Liverpool plans to take over the Premier League
Liverpool made a move and signed Jeremy Jacquet for £60 million in January. Additionally, Giovanni Leoni is continuing his rehabilitation from an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained on his debut against Southampton earlier in the season.
In addition, Ibrahima Konate is set to renew his commitment to the Anfield side. The French centre-back has left much to be desired this season, lamenting his new contract this year, but now appears to be on the verge of an extension.
With that in mind, Liverpool are still interested in signing Marcos Senesi and are taking a chance as the Argentine defender’s contract with Bournemouth approaches expiry.
This comes as Caught Offside has revealed that Tottenham are leading the race to sign the experienced Premier League star and are in “advanced negotiations” to sign him, while Liverpool are still in the race to snatch the deal.
According to reports, Senesi is already attracting interest from several of Serie A’s leading teams, with Tottenham currently leaning towards Tottenham after being laid to rest by the Lilywhites, but he could shake his head if Liverpool decide to step up their game.
why? Now, TEAMtalk further reports that the Reds are growing more confident in signing the player thanks to some trump cards. Hughes already knows the defender’s agent, who is also good friends with Alexis Mac Allister.
Why Liverpool can repeat signing Dias and Senesi
If Liverpool pull off this exciting takeover, Tottenham will feel like they are revisiting familiar and undesirable territory.
In January 2022, Spurs signed Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus, with his initial loan growing into a permanent deal. Kulusevski is a great player, but he must be disappointed to have missed out on Luis Diaz, who was on the verge of moving from Porto to north London before Liverpool accelerated their long-standing interest, according to ESPN.
Dias calmly played the impossible role of replacing Sadio Mane as Liverpool’s star player. Dias may not be the Senegalese’s predecessor, but there is no doubt that he has done the job for Liverpool, helping them win the Premier League last season.
Senesi was able to emulate that influence, albeit in a very different way. A ball-playing centre-back, he has the experience and talent to play a loyal role in Liverpool’s last line, especially considering he will be playing against Bosman. He’s not just beautiful on the ball. Bournemouth writer Ben Pawlowski described him as a “monster” of defenders.

After all, with Van Dijk set to retire after a year, Senesi may be handed a more prominent role beyond his first year.
Moreover, like Diaz, he is a seasoned professional. He was 25 when Liverpool brought in the flashy winger from Portugal.
Senesi may not be as flashy a signing as Dias’ move to Liverpool, but the experienced centre-back could play a fundamental role in Slot’s return to top form next season.
After all, Van Dijk is not getting any younger and while Konate is expected to stay, his performances this season still leave room for improvement.
