Tottenham are planning a shock signing for the brother of Premier League star’s Golden Boot winner

Tottenham Hotspur want to sign James Tavernier in the summer transfer window, but any deal could depend on them avoiding relegation from the Premier League.

Despite De Zerbi’s first win on Saturday, Tottenham remain in serious danger of being relegated from the Championship as West Ham United scored the winning goal in stoppage time to secure a 2-1 victory over Everton.

So, with four games remaining, Spurs are still two points safe and will have to do without Xavi Simons for the rest of the season after the Dutchman ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.

Tottenham announced on their official X account: “We can confirm that Xavi Simmons has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee.”

“The 23-year-old sustained the injury during the second half of Saturday’s Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“Xavi will undergo surgery in the coming weeks and then begin his rehabilitation with our medical team. Everyone at Tottenham Hotspur sends their love and support to Xavi and we will be with him every step of the way.”

Simmons has two goals and five assists in the Premier League this season, while fellow attacking midfielder and AFC Bournemouth star Marcus Tavernier has found the net six times and has scored four goals.

Tottenham eye on signing Rangers captain James Tavanier

The Bournemouth attacker is not the player Tottenham are interested in signing this summer, but a report from TEAMtalk has revealed that Tottenham are planning a shock signing for his younger brother, Rangers star James Tavanier.

The right-back, who has scored an astonishing 144 goals since signing for Gers in 2015, is set to leave Ibrox when his contract expires this summer, making him available on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old has scored regularly throughout his time with the Scotland team and also won the Europa League Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season.

If Tottenham’s nightmare scenario of being relegated comes true, they will be keen to sign an English player and targets have been identified on both sides of De Zerbi’s defence.

Liverpool star Andy Robertson is also in Spurs’ sights, with an agreement in principle already in place to sign the left-back when his contract expires in the summer.

Until then, De Zerbi’s priority is to keep the Lilywhites in the Premier League, but there are some tough away trips ahead in the coming weeks.
