  • Liverpool face major blow as they pursue Diomande
  • Young winger flourishes in Bundesliga

The summer transfer window is fast approaching and the biggest cloud currently hanging over Anfield is the impending departure of club legend Mohamed Salah.

Replacing the Egyptian king would be an almost impossible task, but Liverpool’s recruitment team really thought they had found the perfect successor in RB Leipzig’s explosive teenage sensation Yann Diomande.

But if the latest information from Germany is accurate, the Reds may be forced to put their blockbuster plans on hold for at least another year.

Liverpool face major blow as they pursue Diomande

According to well-connected German transfer official Christian Falk, Liverpool currently face a major hurdle in signing the 19-year-old Ivorian.

Rather than just making money this summer, Leipzig are actively planning to hand Diomande a lucrative new contract.

The Bundesliga club reportedly want to significantly increase his wages while introducing a fixed release clause that does not come into effect until 2027.

They know they have a generational talent and want to squeeze one more elite season out of him before inevitably selling him to a European giant for a hefty fee.

Diomande’s new agent Roc Nation is reported to be in talks, with Leipzig desperate to block any immediate bids and internally imposing a staggering €100m valuation on him just to get to the negotiating table this summer.

It’s incredibly easy to see why Anfield bosses are so keen to bring Diomand to Merseyside.

Young winger flourishes in Bundesliga

The youngster, who followed an unusual early career path of playing high school and academy football in the United States, has completely torn apart the Bundesliga since arriving in Germany from Spanish team Leganes just last summer.

Boasting blistering speed and decisiveness in the final third, he has already made 20 direct contributions in just 30 league appearances this season.

Liverpool are in a difficult situation. They now need a capable winger to fill the huge hole that Salah will leave at the end of the season.

But if Diomande ultimately agrees to Leipzig’s new terms, the Reds will have to make a tough decision.
