As the season comes to a dramatic end in May, the Premier League title race is not the only tension surrounding North London.
While Mikel Arteta remains focused on the pitch, Arsenal legend Ray Parlor has dropped a massive truth bomb about the squad’s composition for next season.
‘Romford Pele’ has publicly predicted that Gabriel Jesus is incredibly close to the door of leaving the club, which dovetails perfectly with outlandish reports that the Gunners could sensationally transfer-list four other first-team players.
Jesus’ time at Arsenal has been something of a roller coaster. When he first arrived, he completely transformed the Gunners’ front line with his relentless pressing and chaotic energy.
But fast forward to today, and his starting spot is no longer completely guaranteed.
Parlor advises Jesus to leave Arsenal
The Brazilian striker’s pure desire for guaranteed playing time is likely to keep him away this summer, according to comments from Parlor, reported by Metro.
“I think Jesus may leave at the end of the season. He’s at an age where he wants to play week in and week out.” Parler explained.
The Arsenal icon recalled his own playing days, pointing out that modern teams need serious depth. “When I played, there were four strikers. I don’t understand that. (Even if Jesus leaves) I just want one more.”.
Parler believes the attacking fresh blood will raise the competitive standard across the dressing room.
But Jesus may not be the only big name emptying his locker. Arsenal reportedly need to generate significant funds to fund their very ambitious summer target, particularly the permanent signing of standout defender Piero Hincapie.
Gunners could make big changes in summer
Reports have emerged suggesting that four big-name players are incredibly strong candidates: Gabriel Martinelli, Ben White, Ethan Nwaneri and Miles Lewis-Skelly.
Selling established superstars like Martinelli and Whyte would be completely unthinkable given their huge contribution under Arteta.
Throwing generational academy talent like Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly into the mix also makes no sense.
However, the harsh financial realities of the Premier League mean that no players are truly untouchable should big-money bids arrive to fund defensive reinforcements.
If Parlor’s intuition is correct, Arsenal are staring at a summer transfer window of intense change.
