Armando Gonzalez has vowed to make his ‘dream’ transfer a reality, with Celtic also eyeing a deal for the Chivas forward this summer.
Gonzalez announces departure amid growing interest in Celtic
Celtic have accomplished everything they set out to do this summer. First and foremost, they have the challenge of finding a long-term replacement for interim manager Martin O’Neill. The latter has done a great job, but the fact that he has been forced to return twice this season highlights just how disastrous the current campaign has been at times.

Interest in Boys may be reignited…
Once the management issues are resolved, the focus will need to be on strengthening the Boies front line. The Scottish giants have lacked a consistent forward all season and that needs to change this summer.
The big question remains: who will come in to solve the problem? Parkhead chiefs could pursue a familiar face in the form of Motherwell’s Tawanda Maswanhise, or opt for an unknown star.
Chivas striker Gonzalez recently admitted he is dreaming of a move to a European club, with Celtic reportedly among the clubs showing interest in the Mexican player in recent months. The forward spoke at length while answering questions about European interest.
“No, I try to focus on my day-to-day life. If it happens, I’ll be very grateful. If it doesn’t, I’ll work to make it happen. My dad and my agent are very careful about that and prefer not to fill my head with things, so I don’t get distracted, and I’m very grateful for that.”
When asked if he was considering a transfer, Gonzalez continued:Well, it’s my dream, so I’ll give it a try. But even if that doesn’t happen, it’s no big deal. I’ll keep working. And when that happens, I’ll be very grateful. It all comes down to staying focused on the day-to-day. ”
Impressive Gonzalez could solve Celtic’s problems
No wonder Celtic are interested. Gonzalez has been in great form for Chivas this season, scoring 24 goals in all competitions. If the Bhoys are looking for a consistent goalscorer, he definitely has the right credentials.
25/26 League Statistics | gonzalez | Maeda |
|---|---|---|
minutes | 1,190 | 2,566 |
the goal | 12 | 10 |
assist | 1 | 6 |
XG | 11.54 | 14.53 |
An opportunity has arisen | 11 | 32 |
As an absolute goalscorer, Gonzalez would be an instant upgrade over Maeda this summer. This season, the 23-year-old has scored more goals in less time and has outperformed expectations.
Maeda, on the other hand, has been underperforming in front of goal and his ruthless lack of continuity has hurt Celtic at times. If they have a chance to bring in Gonzalez, they should take it this summer.
But whether that chance is realistic is a big question. In addition to Boyes, West Ham United and Barcelona are also interested in signing the impressive forward.
A matchup with West Ham is a possibility for Celtic, but if Barcelona came calling, it would oust almost every other team interested in the coming months.
