Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone was photographed walking off the pitch at the Emirates Stadium last night wearing an Arsenal badge.
This strange new obsession with showing “respect” by not walking on certain areas of the flooring is a little strange, but it seems worth pointing out that Simeone’s move comes less than a week after he complained about Ben White doing the same while wearing an Atletico Madrid badge in the first leg of this Champions League semi-final.
Watch below for a video clip of how Simeone did nothing to avoid the Arsenal badge, with no one making a fuss about White’s similar actions last week after Arsenal lost 1-0 at the Emirates…
Perhaps the reality here is that Simeone didn’t think much of it.
As far as we remember, this slightly manufactured controversy didn’t come up until the last couple of years, but please correct me in the comments if I’m wrong.
Arsenal advance to Champions League final, yet another blow for Atletico Madrid
Arsenal fans will be delighted to have reached the Champions League final after 20 years and will be hoping to finally see their club win the competition for the first time.
Atlético, on the other hand, face further heartache as they are still unable to lift the famous old trophy, despite coming close several times.
Simeone led the Spanish giants to two finals just over 10 years ago, but both times they lost to arch-rivals Real Madrid, so this was a big chance for them to reach the final again without facing a psychologically superior side.
However, with Antoine Griezmann set to leave the club and Julian Alvarez’s future in doubt, this summer could be a major rebuilding job for them.
