France could win the 2026 World Cup but Kylian Mbappé’s ego could cause “problems” for Didier Deschamps’ side, according to Emmanuel Petit.
Mbappe was one of the best players in the world at the time and had an impressive World Cup history, scoring Les Bleus’ goal in their final victory in 2018 and scoring a hat-trick in their penalty shootout loss to Argentina in 2022.

Still, Petit has concerns about how Mbappe will fit into the French side, with the former Arsenal midfielder and 1998 World Cup winner with France making it clear he feels the Real Madrid star needs to play on the left.
Petit has said he would like to see Mbappé play out wide instead of up front, with Ousmane Dembele in a central role and Michael Oliseh playing on the right.

“If you do that, I’m sure France will win the World Cup. If you don’t do that and Madrid want to go on the same path as they have done with Kylian Mbappé, there will be problems.”

Can France win the World Cup for the third time?
France has won the World Cup twice in the past, in 1998 and 2018, and will be one of the favorites to win this year’s North American tournament.
France are in Group I with Senegal, Norway and Iraq, and are hoping to avoid a repeat of 2002, when they lost their first group game against Senegal and were eliminated early.
Mbappé could be a difficult character for Deschamps to manage, and it would be an interesting situation if this talented squad were to suffer from too many egos again.
