Manchester United are set to begin a move to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United this summer after Paul Scholes claimed he is better than Arsenal’s Declan Rice.

Manchester United ready to launch offer for Tonali

The Red Devils are still in good form after defeating rivals Liverpool last weekend. However, it is a big question whether this positive atmosphere will lead to Michael Carrick getting a permanent job.

The caretaker manager did his job perfectly, qualifying for the Champions League and often doing it in style. If he does make the move permanent, there is a good chance that INEOS will fully support him in this summer’s transfer window.

One of the best players in the Premier League is open to a move this summer.

There are links with the likes of Elliott Anderson and Tonali, and strengthening the midfielder will be a priority. There’s certainly plenty of praise for both, but it’s likely that only one will arrive, and it’s likely the latter.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Manchester United are ready to make a huge offer for Tonali this summer. Newcastle value the midfielder at a whopping €100m (approximately £86m), but it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils’ big offer is worth the asking price.

The Italian is definitely a player to keep an eye on in the coming months. Despite Newcastle’s obvious struggles this season, his level has not changed. As each game passes and the Magpies continue heading towards a season without European football, retaining such players will prove increasingly difficult.

The former Juventus man is certainly highly regarded at Old Trafford. The Man United legend even recently went so far as to say that Tonali was “better” than Arsenal’s Declan Rice, saying: “Yes, I think he’s better than Declan Rice.

“I really like Declan Rice, don’t get me wrong, I think he’s got it all. I just think he touches the ball too much. I think he’s trying to look a little more stylish than he needs to be.”

‘Nothing has changed’ at Manchester United, says Carrick

Ahead of Manchester United’s tough trip to Sunderland on Saturday, Carrick was again asked about a permanent job. But, as always, he remained the calmest man in the room and urged his team to stay on track.

“As I said a few days ago, we’re also looking to finish the season on a strong note. I understand the question and I understand the timing, but from my perspective at this stage it’s just putting the players in a position to finish the season on a strong note.”

“And like I’ve said all along, and I’m calm about it, when it’s resolved, it’s going to be resolved. Some of it is out of my hands, so we’ll see what happens.”

No one would blame the former midfielder for dreaming big, that’s for sure. He is a great interim appointment and decisions will now be made by INEOS.
